Inspiration
A Island is a 3D take on a classic 2D story—you are shipwrecked on an island in the middle of the ocean. Can you survive and escape the island with nothing but the clothes on your back and items you can find on the island?
What it does
In order to escape from A Island, you must complete a series of tasks. Each of these tasks fulfills a basic need—picking berries for food, finding a river and collecting fresh water from it, and starting a fire using scavenged sticks.
How I built it
We used Unity 3D Game Engine, the HTC Vive, and C# scripting.
Challenges I ran into
As a team comprised mostly of beginners, we ran into many unexpected obstacles and moments of frustration with ourselves. Many things took far more time than we expected them to.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Especially since most of us hadn't used Unity before, it was wonderful to see our little project come together to something users can interact with.
What I learned
Unity! Everyone on the team learned something new in Unity this weekend, both new and old Unity users.
What's next for A Island
If we do decide to continue polishing A Island after this weekend, we'd like to elaborate on the tasks so that they more accurately reflect necessary survival skills in the wild.
