Several people with disabilities, including degenerative diseases, autism and speech disorders, need to use sign language in order to speak or listen. For those who need it, it's an accessible, free, and practical communication tool that doesn't rely on technology.

To help more people become fluent in ASL, we decided to create an online platform. It is very important because the number of deaf-mute people is increasing every year, and it is important that they feel included, valued, and respected.

Therefore, this platform was created so that people could learn ASL for free and communicate with their loved ones.

What it does

The platform teaches you the basics of ASL (alphabet, hello, and I love you) and as a bonus shows you how to say Captain America in sign language.

Our decision to include Captain America's American Sign Language sign was influenced by the fact that he is a beloved character among young children.

How we built it

we built it using Figma, photos in Canva and several plugins that Figma has.

Challenges we ran into

It was a challenge to try to show in a dynamic way through some video how to say the alphabet and other ASL signs, as we felt it was the easiest way to learn the language, but we never succeeded in including video no matter what we tried with different plugins and tutorials :c

We also tried to add "how are you?" with a GIF, but for unknown reasons it didn't move in the prototype, so we had to replace it with an alternative phrase, so they could learn it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Event through we couldn't insert videos in Figma, we were able to use GIFs to dynamically display the different ASL phrases in Figma using GIFs. And we are very proud of this.

What we learned

We learned how to use Figma with interactive movements, how to insert GIFs into Figma and researched relevant information about ASL.

What's next for iSign

The project is still a prototype, but we are very proud of it and plan to turn it into code and make it an online platform for people to learn ASL. Our goal for this project is to have a more inclusive world.
