Inspiration

In 2018, the founder of Isekai, Frank, an artist and a crypto enthusiast, began to curate and participate blockchain and art exhibitions in Asia. He is one of the first pioneers who started to explore how blockchain technology could benefit the creator economy back then.

In 2021, as the development of blockchain technology and also NFT being known to the public, Frank felt it’s time to build a creator ecosystem. "Founder Frank is an Anime enthusiast and an artist, as well as a developer.

What it does

Isekai Metaverse is an Isekai theme Web3 ACGN (anime, comics, games, and novels) content distribution and creation platform. Based on the open-source creator protocol: Isekai Protocol, users can create various forms of derivative creation based on the original IP, eventually forming an NFT content network between derivatives and originals, building a bottom-up ACGN content creation ecosystem together.

️Isekai Metaverse provides users with a creator platform and a visual novel maker. Users can upload derivative creations, explore content and trade NFTs on the platform, and use the visual novel maker to import illustrations, music, dubbings and scripts from the platform into the visual novel maker to create plot branches and complete visual novels.

Isekai Protocol is a content creator protocol based on open-source consensus. This protocol enables creators to create derivative creations based on original works for commercial purposes, and derivative creations need to follow the same protocol. When derivative creations realize gains, owners of NFTs used in derivative creations can gain relevant profit through an on-chain royalty system.

How we built it

Isekai is made up of two main parts in the first phase, which is NFT marketplace with a creator tool and an AVG game editor. The NFT marketplace is built on Ethereum and the AVG game editor is built with Unity.

Challenges we ran into

Current NFT projects are building walls in the digital world, creators still hold the copyright of intellectual properties, which makes it difficult for derivative creation. So, there is no protocol for creators.

Most NFT projects are still using the top-down approach with no community creation. Creators and their fans still use web 2.0 social media to build communities and communicate with each other. The value of their interaction can’t be captured by the web 3.0 mechanism.

The narrative we chose is far beyond what the crypto market can accept, so we ran into some difficulties when doing fundraising and market adoption.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our proudest thing is that we put forward the open-source creator protocol which may be the fundamentals of community creation. It’s the soul of our platform.

And we put forward the concept of using NFTs to control intellectual properties, instead of using copyright licenses.

Those were the concept part of the platform. Next, I’m going to make them into the product. For creators of visual novels, we have lowered the threshold of creation so that creators do not need to pay for material in advance to create visual novels. In the web2 visual novel platform, if you want to use good quality material, you have to pay about a hundred dollars to make this visual novel. Most of the revenue from the created works goes to the creators. In contrast, the web2 platform will take 50% per cent of the work and may also take away the copyright. For creators of material, such as illustrations, music and scripts, the status of material creators is relatively low in the traditional creator economy, as the big platforms usually buy material on a one-off basis. The creators have nothing to do with the ongoing income from their works. In our platform, creators can earn ongoing revenue from their work through a royalty fee. There are also other options to monetize their work.

What we learned

Stick to what we believe, regardless of what others say. Build and create, at the same time, try to find more people who share the same faith as we do and build together.

What's next for Isekai Metaverse

We will launch our first 5555 NFTs. It’s a collection of 5555 unique "isekai" theme full-body drawings following the Isekai Protocol.

Then we will invite our NFT holders and creators to participate in an alpha test of our platform. Creators can create derivative works upon the NFTs we launched or use them as materials or references in visual novel making. Then, our platform will officially be launched; everyone can create derivative illustrations, music, and novels on our website. Our visual novel editor will also be launched. Users can use all the NFT materials, including illustration, music, and scripts, to make visual novels. We will launch more well-produced NFTs to allow creators to have more high-quality materials for their visual novels. Our launchpad will also be opened to creators soon, so they can launch their original NFTs. We will help other NFT projects to use our visual novel maker to expand the narratives of their IP, and try to let them adopt Isekai Protocol.
