Inspiration
I own a book publishing agency, helping authors self-publish and market their books. I had this idea for a long time.
What it does
ISBNLookup.org helps book readers search for book information using its ISBN.
How I built it
First, I built this app using react.js, but it was difficult to implement dynamic pages that let search engine index our website. So I had to restart everything again using next.js and JavaScript.
Challenges I ran into
I am not a developer. However, I have been freelancing for a long time. I have built WordPress hundreds of websites. I had to learn Node.js from scratch. Likewise, I never knew Next.js before vibe coding. The big challenge I faced was implementing the Amazon Product API. And, I used multiple AI to build the app. Big thanks to Grok3 XAI.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I combined multiple data source into one to create a book search tool that can find almost all books on the internet.
What I learned
As I am not a developer. There have been lots of learning curves for me. From VS Code to GitHub and to Netlify functions. I knew nothing about building web apps before.
What's next for ISBNLookup.org
I am monetizing the app using the Amazon associate program. I have to figure out a way to keep this project profitable. I am also building an ISBN database, I am using Firebase database. I have to make sure I don't end up paying too much for database hosting as in just 3 months, the database has grown to 7k books.
