Inspiration
Online scams are growing fast and many people, especially youth, newcomers, and seniors, struggle to tell what is real. We wanted to create a simple tool that helps people feel safer and more confident online.
What it does
Our tool analyzes messages, links, and screenshots to detect scam warning signs. It explains risks clearly, shows red flags, and gives users safe next steps and learning resources.
How we built it
We built a web app using React for the frontend and Vercel for hosting. We used Gemini AI to analyze user input and generate scam risk results while clearing data to protect privacy.
Challenges we ran into
We had issues connecting the Gemini AI with our React application at first. We had to figure out how to properly send and receive data between the frontend and AI system, but we were able to solve it through testing and debugging.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a working scam detection prototype with clear risk explanations.
What we learned
We learned how to connect AI tools with web development and how to deploy and manage applications using Vercel.
What's next for Is it real?
We plan to build a mobile app with instant text scanning and local AI processing. We also want to expand detection to harassment, phishing, and other online safety threats.
