Inspiration
Theme parks have a problem with the accumulation of wastes, including waste of recyclables & negatively affects the profitability and look of the theme park.
What it does
A unit encouraging people to recycle, in turn earning shopping rewards for keeping the park clean. Unit is able to distinguish between recycle aluminum cans that are acceptable and other unacceptable objects.
How we built it
Prototype designed in SolidWorks to display functionality of the unit.
Challenges we ran into
Initially, the unit was able to handle the recycling of both plastics and aluminum cans, however the team chose to solely focus on aluminum can detection.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Working 3-D prototype of the initial concept. Reached out of knowledge bounds to bring different concept into the project.
What we learned
There's is room for IRU in real life, and with more development and testing it could prove to be useful as more people are moving towards greener technologies.
What's next for IRU - INCENTIVIZING RECYCLING UNIT
A Tray to catch liquids Carbon filters to solve possible smell of waste (Old dry soda on machine or drain, etc.) Similar process for plastic bottles (Thermal sensors) A demo for the user interface once QR code is scanned
