What it does
Our submission provides a complete, rigorously documented solution to the Quant Puzzle Track problem. It consists of two core deliverables:
- Design Paper: Formulates the problem, outlines our approach, and presents the final solution.
- Evidence Appendix: Provides step-by-step traces with supporting data to validate our approach.
Our approach minimizes direct service downtime and total packet loss by utilizing 3 "anchor" planets all of which are allowed to record transactions rather than one central hub which tracks all transactions
How we built it
To find which planets would best serve as our anchor's, we simulated the position data of the planets over 2000 years using a c++ program and exported the data into a spreadsheet. Using that spreadsheet we were able to find the 3 planets with the minimum packet loss to all other institutions which turned out to be Earth, Venus, and Mercury.
Using that information, we designed the model and created a starting balance sheet and situations that would test the limits of our approach.
Challenges we ran into
Coming into the competition with no finance or quant knowledge from any of our members, nearly every term in the brief was new to us. Before we could even start drafting a solution, we had to spend hours reading through the brief just to understand what we were meant to create.
In addition, none of us knew how to use latex yet we decided to do the entire project inside of latex which required us to gain at least some basic knowledge into latex formatting to be able to proofread latex files and fix basic errors.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the fact that we have created a valid solution to this problem which helps minimize packet loss and creates redundancy for transactions which is both efficient and secure.
We're also proud of the things that we have learned such as the quant and finance terms required to complete this project and seeing the effort that we have put in come to fruition.
