Inspiration

IRON GUARD: Salvation is the next chapter in our sci-fi VR tower defense series, born from our passion for combining immersive storytelling with deep strategy gameplay. The original IRON GUARD received great feedback for its blend of action, tactics, and atmosphere, and we wanted to push that further, creating a more cinematic and emotionally grounded experience while retaining the classic strategic core fans loved

What it does

The game puts players in command of a stranded human expedition on the sentient alien planet Acris. Using VR controllers, players build and upgrade defenses, command hero units, and fight waves of enemies to uncover the mysteries behind the planet’s awakening. Salvation enhances this experience with new levels, improved enemy, richer visuals, and full narrative cutscenes, all optimized for Quest, PCVR and PSVR2.

How we built it

We developed IRON GUARD: Salvation using Unity, and openXR SDK . Our in-house process were refined from the first IRON GUARD to improve AI path-finding. The team worked closely in distributed collaboration across multiple time zones to ensure every interaction felt intuitive and satisfying.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was balancing high-fidelity visuals with VR performance constraints, especially across different headsets. We also had to rework our control systems to feel natural on all headset while preserving gameplay precision. Finally, refining the AI and pathfinding for large-scale battles required multiple passes to achieve the right pacing and tension.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that IRON GUARD: Salvation feels like a complete evolution of our series, both visually and in terms of gameplay mechanics and balance. We also devised a custom mathematically drive game balance system, which controlled and affected multiple components and dependencies of the gameplay.

What we learned

We learned that designing for VR isn’t just about porting traditional gameplay, it’s about rethinking how players feel and act in the world. Testing and iteration in actual headsets proved crucial for comfort, pacing, and emotional engagement. We also gained valuable insight into optimizing high-end visuals without sacrificing performance or immersion.

What's next for IRON GUARD: Salvation

We always pay close attention to the reviews and feedback players leave, and if any widespread issues arise, we make sure to address them. We’re grateful to everyone who has contributed and shared their thoughts about the game, helping us fix bugs and improve various aspects of it. We would love to add multiplayer support, map editor and also drop DLCs, but this all depends on the game’s success and community interest.
