Inspiration
We wanted to bring the old school tower defense genre already beloved on PC and mobile into VR in a fresh way that feels immersive and tactical. The goal was to let players step directly into the battlefield and control the action from a commander’s perspective and blend genres to best fit the medium.
What it does
IRON GUARD: Salvation is a sci-fi VR tower defense game where players move platforms to strategic positions, build, upgrade, and control turrets while also taking direct combat action. It blends strategic planning with hands-on shooting, creating a unique hybrid gameplay loop that works naturally in VR.
How we built it
The game was built in Unity, optimized for Meta Quest with ports in progress for PCVR (Steam) and PSVR2. We combined our in-house tools with VR-specific design to balance smooth controls, large-scale battles, and detailed environments.
Challenges we ran into
Designing levels that feel challenging but not overwhelming in VR. Balancing performance (lots of enemies on screen) with visual fidelity.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Maintaining very high positive reviews on Meta Horizon Quest store. Expanding a niche genre into VR with strong community response. Successfully launching a full sequel that improves on the original.
What we learned
We learned how to adapt traditional game genres to VR without losing their essence, how important UX design is for comfort and clarity in VR, and how to optimize large-scale battles for standalone headsets.
What's next for IRON GUARD: Salvation
Expanding to Steam (PCVR) and PSVR2 by the holidays. Adding more community-requested features and quality-of-life improvements. Exploring ways to scale the franchise further.
