Inspiration
As friends who play Minecraft together, we wanted to take inspiration from one of our favorite games and explore working with hardware.
What it does
The IRL Noteblock, like the name suggests, attempts to make a replica of the noteblock in Minecraft, particularly the feature where placing it on different surfaces produces different sounds.
How we built it
We used a Raspberry Pi to control a camera and speaker. Given the camera input, we take the average RGB color and produce a sound depending on which group this RGB value falls under. We also allow the user to change the pitch of certain colors. Lastly, we also allow the user to scan QR codes to prompt custom music generation or playing their favorite songs.
Challenges we ran into
Bringing together the software and hardware components of our project proved to be very challenging. There were many unexpected bugs and errors that came from compatibility issues.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Even so, we continued to push through and think of ways to resolve or circumvent the issues that we faced along the way.
