Inspiration
Mental health is a national crisis, with 50M+ Americans suffering mental illness. We believe journalling and a personal companion that tracks and make personalized recommendation is the solution to this national issue.
What it does
Iris currently works on any chat platform, but available on Discord first, and will assist users' daily needs, through text or audio. Our vision is to build a standalone app that helps users easily express and navigate through all their daily needs.
How we built it
We leveraged Claude v2 and OpenAI apis, hosting our bots on remote servers.
Challenges we ran into
- Fine-tuning the tone of the assistant requires iterative effort to fit various needs from different users.
- Streaming audio to allow real-time conversations took a while to make it performant.
- Persisting large chat history, with a large corpus of past journals, for Iris to provide comprehensive guidance will require some database enhancing.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have a working prototype that can immediately help with a serious issue.
What we learned
Despite larger context window, information retrieval may still require further optimization.
What's next for Iris
- Add tools to help automatically take care of to-dos.
- Include easier UI and triggers for different entries (ie. journal vs to-dos vs chats).
