IQZ IoT Covid & Contact Tracing Tracker

Inspiration

The outbreak of the coronavirus disease has disrupted our day to day lives in numerous ways. The virus is spreading very easily causing the healthcare systems of even the most advanced countries to reach their capacity. This is primarily because a large fraction of people infected with COVID-19 are either asymptomatic or exhibit mild symptoms. This creates a large number of reasonably healthy disease carriers, which makes it easier for the virus to reach the more vulnerable population. Because of this, contact tracing and infection tracking are indispensable for containing the spread of this pandemic. (Source: IEEE)

Fortunately, this coincides with the emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT), which is already being considered for healthcare applications but is a match made in heaven for contact/infection tracing because of its ubiquity. (Source: IEEE)

Inspired by this, we have developed an accelerator that can ingest relevant real-time symptom information from personal IoT wearables and use Pega as the digital transformation tool that will enable HR of a company to visualize covid spots and notify employees who are exhibiting strong symptoms. HR will also be able to utilize contact tracing achieved and inform co-workers who were in close proximity with the affected employee.

We believe that our accelerator architecture that can integrate real-time symptom information with Pega’s powerful platform will provide easy tracking of emerging respiratory and other diseases spread and enable HR workforce to take pro-active steps to protect their workforce.

Challenges we ran into

Generating heatmaps and all the associated process flows related to covid symptoms data generation, consumption and visualization within a short span of time was challenging for our team.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

What we accomplished in a short span of time by bringing in ideas from other team members and cross-collaboration between different functional teams was something we are proud of.

What we learned

The cloud IoT platforms and current 5G network capacity makes it possible to process millions of data reads per minute possible and with digital modernization tool like Pega, we will be able to ship solutions faster to the market.

What's next for IQZ IoT Covid & Contact Tracing Tracker

We want to evangelize this internally and start using this as a solution for our needs to protect our workforce. With more inventions in IoT wearables and ability to get real-time symptom information from people will help us add more predictive functionalities in the future.
