Inspiration

This project is to do with the record keeping and validation associated with contract execution and amendments.

The project idea is to use a combination of GitHub and Ethereum to track the initial contract execution and any changes/amendments to the contract, ensure the changes are stored in a de-centralized location with full visibility/transparency for all of the changes, provide visibility into the most recent version of the contract without having to go through all individual amendments, and ensure that all authorizations for changes are conducted before any contract changes are executed and stored in the blockchain infrastructure.

What it does

GitLegal is software for contract management and development that leverages the security of Blockchain. It provides a full audit trail of the contract, increasing reader transparency and understanding. Only authorized parties are able to access, comment and execute changes to the contract, making fraud prevention a key added benefit. Finally, GitLegal will have a built-in clause library, that when coupled with AI, will allow users to develop their own contracts.

How we built it

We built GitLegal using a combination of Git and Blockchain. We had a development team with a dedicated project manager. Our advisors (NRF) were able to give us insight into user requirements, desired functionality and the target market, which allowed the build to proceed efficiently.

Challenges we ran into

A template for the solution did not exist, and we had to marry the technology, business, and security requirements into a comprehensive package, while still making the PoC build feasible within a month.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are able to make the most of limited time availability of the project team to "hack" something together that we feel has real substance. It was a real team effort.

What we learned

Having user validation upfront helped shape the product. We knew generally what we wanted, which allowed the build proceed efficiently, but in retrospect, we ideally could have spent more time on the UI to really outline the benefits of the application.

What's next for GitLegal - Smart Legal Repo

As the pitch states, we need to start getting customers on the application. To do that, we will spend some time refining the technology demo and the sales strategy, and then approach customers in our first target market to try it out.
