Inspiration
When I first time tried to do some investment, I was totally lost because of thousands of stocks available in the market. It's not only hard to learn those basic concepts of investment and finance, but also almost impossible to get the data you need if you want to try what you have learned in real-life. In order to make those beginner investors' life easier, we decided to build some tools to help them.
What it does
The iPort provides different models, historical data of major stocks and also a brand new experience in exploring the real-life investment market and financial market.
How we built it
We used Python to build those financial models and use html and amazon-web-service to deliver the results to our investors.
Challenges we ran into
We found it really hard to connect our product with some APIs, so that we are not able to grab up-to-date data as soon as possible. Also, none of our group members has experience in the amazon-web-service before, so we had some problems uploading our website.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Building different models using Python and building the web framework using Django. And we're also proud of being able to combine our finance knowledge, statistic knowledge and software development knowledge together to build this project.
What we learned
We learned how to build web framework using django, build financial models library using Python and that teamwork is the key to accomplish our goal.
What's next for iPortfolio - Beginner investors adviser
The next thing we want to add in is derivatives calculator and also risk report for portfolios. Also fixed income products and stress test would also be a good idea.
