Inspiration

After seeing many, very expensive IOT devices online, I craved one in my room. So I decided to build a internet connected Lamp with a ESP8266 and a relay.

What it does

When you say "Turn On/Off The Lamp" into your Google Assistant it turns on and off the Lamp!

How I built it

I built it using and Arduino, and the Google Assistant. I used IFTTT (If Then Then That) to handle the Google Assistant Request, this way I did not have to use the Google API. The Relay then switches on and off, by using a pin out of the Arduino.

Challenges I ran into

I ran into the challenge of getting the Arduino program onto the ESP8266 chip, the serial connection with the computer did not like to work all of the time.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm shocked that I was able to complete this in one, nerd-fun filled day!

What I learned

I learned a lot about serial connections, and how to safely wire a 120V power line without shocking yourself.

What's next for IOT Lamp

I'm taking it to college with me, for me and my roommate to enjoy! I will also clean up the mess of cables!
