Inspiration

As a freelancer myself, I saw how much time goes into creating invoices. Most of my friends either use messy Excel sheets or pay $15/month for tools that are too complicated. In Pakistan and other countries, many freelancers don’t even have access to paid tools or PayPal. That’s why we built Invoice Buddy — a simple, free tool to help freelancers look professional and get paid faster.

What it does

Invoice Buddy is a web app that lets users create, download, and track professional invoices in under 2 minutes. Core features in MVP: Invoice Builder: Add client details, items, tax, and logo Instant PDF Export: One click to download a clean, branded invoice Dashboard: View all created invoices and their status No Login Required: Start creating immediately

How we built it

We built Invoice Buddy in 48 hours using: Frontend: React + Tailwind CSS for a fast and clean UI Backend: Node.js + Express for API and PDF generation Database: MongoDB to store invoice data PDF Library: jsPDF to generate downloadable invoices We focused on mobile-first design so freelancers can create invoices from their phone.

Challenges

we ran into PDF Formatting: Getting the invoice layout to look perfect on both screen and PDF was tricky Time Constraint: Building auth + dashboard + PDF in 48 hours was tough, so we prioritized core features. Currency & Tax: Making it flexible for users in different countries
