Engineering leaders, Product professionals, and Entrepreneurs have the difficult job of translating R&D investments into company bottom line outcomes. Whether they are pitching to a potential investor, reporting up to a CTO, or deciding what initiative to tackle next, understanding their current R&D investment allocation is critical to making the right decisions about where to spend time in the future.

Our Jira analytics tool equips leaders with impactful, data-driven visuals that effectively convey the strategic influence of engineering efforts. It quantifies productivity, categorizes work by value, identifies potential tax credits, and demonstrates the ROI of your investments.

In order to build the tool, we first asked our own leaders what information they need in order to decide where to put their R&D dollars. We translated this into a series of classifications then engineered an AI powered classification system which analyzes a users's Jira tickets.

There were two large hurdles to overcome when building the tool. First, there is a wide variety in the quality of information provided in tickets. This means that we needed to be creative in our AI Algorithms to maximize the results returned. The second and still evolving challenge is identifying the right information to surface to leaders that will truly help them make decisions about their future R&D investments. We are encouraged to get the application launched in order to start collecting feedback and adding more insights.

Next steps for the Investment Analyzer are to layer in our own Automated Time Tracking and customer provided financials. This will allow a user to see their R&D investment in hours and dollars providing them with even stronger value statements and actionable items related to their R&D Team.
