Inspiration

The inspiration behind InvestMate came from my personal experience in my financial management. As a student, I have noticed how overwhelming personal finance can be, especially for students and young adults. Many people including myself know that they should save or invest, but they often do not know where to start or how to start while living their own lives. I wanted to create something simple and approachable for those people who have been seeking the way to make money for them to become financially independent. Additionally, how my parents raised me inspired me. Since middle school, my parents have given me 100 dollars every month, and told me to manage all the expenses, for example, money to use to go out with my friends, clothes, snacks etc. This taught me how to how to act in a limited financial situation.

What it does

The app, InvestMate, does not just show your financial data, but gives users clear guidance and next steps, how to manage their money and the method of controlling their expenses. My goal of the project is to make financial planning feel less intimidating and more practical for everyday lives. I was inspired by the people who are young but already have developed their financial independence, and the idea that financial independence, and the idea that financial literacy should be accessible to everyone, including people with busy schedules or little financial knowledge.

How we built it

I designed InvestMate with a clean and minimal interface so users could quickly understand their financial situation at a glance. The app includes: -Suggested savings recommendations -Safe-to-invest calculations -Goal-oriented guidance -Navigation features such as income, expenses, savings, -Stock tracker, and micro-learning

While building the project, I mainly focused on user experience and organization. Since my target zone is people in low-middle income, mostly students and young adults. I wanted the layout to feel simple, quick to use, since finance apps can sometimes feel too complicated for beginners.

I also thought carefully about how my target users would interact with the app on mobile devices, which influenced the sidebar design and spacing choices.

Challenges I ran into

One of the biggest challenges was deciding how to present financial information in a way that felt useful without overwhelming the user. I also faced challenges balancing simplicity and functionality. I wanted the app to look clean and easy to use while still including meaningful features and future expansion possibilities. Additionally, for those who don't have any experience in coding, it was hard to build the app that you’re imagining for.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of myself building some my intangible idea into something tangible, useful, and meaningful. Since this is my first time making a digital product, and the InvestMate is something that I have been imagining to build for a long time myself, but also for others who facing the same financial struggles.

As someone who has experienced the stress of managing money as a student, seeing this idea become a working product feels amazing. Beyond simply building an app, I am proud that I took an idea from my experience and transformed it into a solution that has the potential to help people make smarter financial decisions and feel more confident about their future.

This project also represents personal growth for me, as I challenged myself to do something what I had never done before, learned new technical skills, and challenged myself to create digital products despite having limited experience in app development.

What I learned

Through this project, I learned that building a successful app is not only about coding, it is also about figuring out how the app can solve the user's needs and solving the real problems. This shows how important it is to connect technology with real-life needs. Creating InvestMate helped me understand how software can make everyday decisions easier and more empowering for users.

What's next for InvestMate

My long-term vision is for InvestMate to become a financial companion that helps users build healthier financial habits with confidence.
