Inspiration

Women and minorities are the most underrepresented people in today's workforce due to many reasons. In the United States, the investments in women and minority-based startups is 80 percent lower than the median investment in businesses overall. Unfortunately, this leads to many of the startups closing before they complete their early-stage phase. This inspired us to create a web app that helps to link minority and women-based startups with investors.

What it does

Our website, Investio.ai, helps investors and corporations to easily locate startups that align with their values and interests and allow them to invest in the companies. The user(either startup owner, investor, or corporate leader) can create an account in the website and specify their needs. If startup owner, they can list their company along with founded date as well as description. They can also browse for investors and reach out to the ones they need. If they are an investor, they can browse for startups and connect with other investors. With this web app, we hope to foster innovation in woman and minority led startups and help them get the funds they need and help them to achieve their goals.

How we built it

We used Figma for designing the website and HTML/CSS for frontend.

Challenges we ran into

Some of our team members did not have experience creating a website or coding in HTML/CSS, so they had to learn more about it, before we could start our project. Another challenge we faced was coming up with a feasible idea for the project. We had to come up with something that we could implement within the given time frame. Additionally, we were located in different time zones, but made it a bit difficult to collaborate.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we were able to complete the project in the given time frame. We used the minimalistic design, which makes the website easy to use and it is fully functional. Moreover, our team members learnt how to build their first website, using HTML/CSS.

What we learned

We learnt how to efficiently collaborate with other developers as well as how to make a fully functional website.

What's next for Investio.ai

  • categorizing startup/corporation/investor data based on different factors like industry and etc.
  • creating a larger database and implement backend development.
  • Building a mobile app for the project and adding more features (payment options, crowd-sourcing, etc.)
