Inspiration

Our inspiration for this project is encouraging financial literacy for those without extensive knowledge of personal finance. Most personal finance courses can be tedious, but we wanted to implement a course that is challenging and fun, while being informative enough to reach most audiences.

What it does

Investing in Life breathes life into several characters that may face everyday struggles. It then gives the player a series of finance-based choices that may impact whether or not the character achieves a better financial outcome. At the end, the game reviews your choices to determine whether your choices made the character win, lose, or remain in a similar situation.

How we built it

We built Investing in Life with javascript, css, html, and spline.

Challenges we ran into

A challenge we ran into is the sizing of the 3d models on the spline. As beginners in spline we were unable to figure out how to make all the avatars the same size and how to import them in to the code. The entire project was a learning process but we were eventually able to fix the main page and the base pages for the questions. After that our group was able to fully connect the routes for Maya and make a good storyline. Another thing we struggled with was time but splitting up the work into more manageable pieces and deciding to focus on one character really helped.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud being able to finish Maya's route and being able to finish her story. We are also proud of being able to use spline for the first time and create something that look aesthetically pleasing.

What we learned

During the coding process, we learned a lot about UI/UX and front-end design. We also learned about the fundamentals of 3D modeling and game design.

What's next for Investing in Life

For the future we plan to implement the next two characters storylines. Then we talked about brainstorming more scenarios for the current players to give them more depth. We also pondered showing the amount of bill totals and having options of what to pay based money in the bank.
