Inspiration
We were curious about the movements of the stock market, and how one might be able to learn about the stock market in an interactive and safe way.
What it does
InvestED tracks the stock market in real time, giving users a realistic experience when investing. While investing, the user is given responsibility, as if a investment firm, over various client's money, keeping them actively looking for high yields and interested in the progress of their investments.
How we built it
InvestED is built with a backend of python data analysis with a React.js framework page to allow interactivity. Our team was split in two, one person working on the front end, the other the back.
Challenges we ran into
There were issues obtaining stock data, as the API we utilised was a tight bottleneck, allowing only 5 requests every minute, meaning that obtaining large amounts of stock data was impossible, especially to complete our multiple linear regression AI. Data storage was also a large issue, and our initial data format was extremely limiting and required a refactor halfway through the allotted time limit. The final large issue was the React.js framework, and how it interacted with the client, as it was extremely limited when dealing with client information, especially in the time limit we had left to work on it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of having a sturdy and reliable backend, capable of obtaining all data required in a readable format, as well as having a working Linear Regression Model, and a theoretically working Multiple Linear Regression Model, although we were never able to test its full capabilities.
What we learned
In future, we have learnt to better organise both our data and our code to be both more readable, refactorable, and more debuggable.
What's next for InvestED
The next step is to completely implement the client aspect of the tool, and the model so that it better supports the user. There are also bug fixes required to make the experience more enjoyable.
