Inspiration
In a world where stocks are all of the rage, yet it feels like no one is educated on them, having a safe space to learn about and visualize stocks is very important.
What it does
The site is a place for beginners to learn about investing sustainably. It provides users with information about ESG Scores, Long-Term and Short-Term stocks, and a Portfolio where they can take a quiz and receive backs stocks that are a good fit for them.
How we built it
The front end of the website was built through HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and the backend is written in Java
Challenges we ran into
So we actually ran into quite a few challenges! One big one would probably be getting the API to work. We originally wanted to call it with the backend, but it wasn't working, so the front-end developer had to use JavaScript to call it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to make a working product in such short time, and that we were able to meet new people and have a good time while doing it.
What we learned
So our front-end developer, Diana learned how to use JavaScript and make API calls from it. Our first back-end developer, Astha learned how to connect the back-end and front-end database together. Finally, our second back-end developer Saketh learned how to create visual graphs on JavaScript.
What's next for InvestBetter
So there are a lot of features that we wished to complete if we had time. If we were able to get the back-end to call from the API instead of using JavaScript, we would have been able to implement more features. One thing that we had really hoped to do was to allow users to save stocks in their portfolio and then visualize them using pi-charts.
