Inspiration

Many workshops still manage inventory manually, which often leads to stock shortages, delays, and miscommunication. Observing these real operational problems inspired us to build a structured Inventory Management System tailored specifically for workshop environments.

What it does

It allows users to:

Track materials under Welding, Fabrication, and Miscellaneous categories

View stock status with color indicators (green, yellow, red)

Manage gas cylinders with available and empty counts

Place and approve orders

Maintain vendor records

Monitor monthly usage through analytics

This improves transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency.

How we built it

We built the system using a full-stack architecture. The backend uses Node.js and Express, and PostgreSQL handles structured data storage.

The frontend provides a clean and simple interface suitable for workshop staff. The system is hosted locally on a central server and accessed by multiple computers over the workshop network.

Role-based authentication ensures secure and controlled access.

Challenges we ran into

Designing a system that is powerful yet simple for non-technical users was challenging.

Implementing secure role-based permissions and ensuring accurate stock updates across multiple computers required careful backend planning.
