Inspiration
The inspiration behind our application is that so many people are suffering from Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs), they range from Diabetes to psychological issues. This is an issue that affects so many people. According to World Health Organization about 74% of all deaths globally are due to Non-Communicable Diseases and from those deaths 86% are from people below the age of 70 years. The statistics also link unhealthy eating habits to a rise in the statistics that cause these diseases.
We saw the need to create something that can link anyone that is in the rural and urban areas with the ability to gain access to what they need in terms of a nutritionist.
What it does
iNutri is a Multi-platform application that gives advice on what anyone with the few selective conditions that we chose to focus on can access in terms of nutrition advice as well be able to book consultation services that will help them make sure that they are on track and also give the patients access to a trained nutritionist.
How we built it
Our application was built using the .NET Maui framework which incorporates the use of XAML for the front end and C# for the backend. We used Azure platform for our APIs which was native and DevOps for showcasing our application and storing the codes.
Challenges we ran into
The project as a whole is risky business since this is a matter that involves human life. The lack of information from a certified nutritionist was a challenge so you find that the nutrition guides we have are from "Dr google" We also had challenges navigating the .NET Maui framework but we did it through the use of the Microsoft Learn resources as well as ChatGpt as a guide on how to navigate the platform. The Azure options are also a major issue due to lack of any idea on how to navigate through it and also some of our APIs and database and all that.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The ability to learn new technologies and exploiting them to our advantage. Some of us can already get through backend and create something from another platform apart from Android studio which becomes easier since you know you have choices. It also brought about a sense of belonging as well as a team challenge and helped working with others.
What we learned
How to use .NET Maui, C#, the use of Azure resources, XAML
What's next for iNutri App
We plan on making a payment page where when someone pays they have access to a nutritionist . We have a plan of introducing a psychologist or a friend to talk to when things overwhelm you. In the call section we plan to set only 30 mins for the default but if you pay depending on the standard of the payment you can get up to 3hrs of talk time.
