Inspiration
Into the Madness Pit was inspired by my love for Wonderland’s visual chaos, its colors, its contradictions, and its strange logic. I’ve always been drawn to how whimsical it looks on the surface, and how easily it can tip into something unsettling. For this project, I wanted to explore that tipping point: a decayed, chaotic tea party where Wonderland’s iconic characters twist into monstrous or demonic versions of themselves.
What it does
The project reimagines a familiar universe through a darker lens. It creates: A corrupted version of Wonderland’s tea party Characters whose original traits evolve into monstrous or predatory forms A visual atmosphere where whimsy collapses into horror It’s both a playful reinterpretation and a descent into instability, a Wonderland where everything looks almost right, until it doesn’t.
How we built it
I worked through multiple AI tools, fighting and embracing the way they tend to push Wonderland into specific visual clichés. Instead of resisting those impulses, I decided to play with them. I combined: Stylized prompts Iterative character redesigns Scene compositions inspired by theatrical staging Color palettes that blend whimsy with decay And randomness. The result grew quickly, almost unexpectedly, because I let the process stay intuitive and fun.
Challenges we ran into
AI tools strongly push Wonderland into the same saturated, “storybook” aesthetic Maintaining character consistency while making them more demonic or monstrous Balancing whimsy and decay without losing the identity of the original characters Working fast without overthinking led to small visual gaps still to be polished
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a Wonderland that feels recognizable but newly corrupted Designing monstrous versions of iconic characters without losing their essence Completing a full experimental short in a short time Letting the process stay joyful, chaotic, and creatively untethered
What we learned
This project taught me that: AI can trap you in visual patterns, but those patterns can become part of the fun Letting go of perfection accelerates creativity Wonderland is a playground for distortion, mutation, and reinvention Sometimes the best projects come from not asking if you should, but simply doing it
What's next for Into the Madness Pit
I want to: Refine the characters further, giving each a sharper monstrous identity Add more micro-scenes from different corners of this corrupted Wonderland Explore a longer sequence centered on the decayed tea party Potentially create a trilogy of shorts exploring different “corrupted storybook” worlds But for now, Into the Madness Pit stands as a reminder that creativity can be messy, fast, and incredibly fun, and that Wonderland was always one glitch away from becoming a nightmare.
