I created Into the Light as a process of healing and closure after a very dark period. The lyrics poured out of me in five minutes: raw, intense, honest, and, in a strange way, gloriously liberating. I sing, play guitar, and bass on the track. The concept of the video was to make the experience of gaslighting felt by making reality itself unreal, and is to show how the scapegoat mechanism can manifest through a parent–child relationship, ideology, and politics. The clip is a symbolic translation of a journey, one that represents uprooting, struggle, and the victory of moving from darkness into light. My goal was to create the video on a very low budget, both as an artistic experiment and to explore what insights this process might bring to my students. Because many of the images I wanted to create were too explicit for generative AI restrictions, I had to learn how to trick the systems in order to visualize what I needed to express. As a result, I ended up manually crafting almost every scene in Photoshop first, to regain control over the output and preserve the emotional truth of each image.
