Inspiration

Technical interviews are stressful, unpredictable, and difficult to practice realistically. Most mock interview platforms today feel scripted and robotic, which doesn’t properly prepare candidates for real conversations with recruiters and hiring managers.

We wanted to build an interview simulator that feels genuinely human — one where candidates can experience realistic questioning, conversational interruptions, pressure, and personalized feedback. Our goal was to combine conversational AI, realistic avatars, and live voice interaction into an immersive interview preparation experience.

What it does

InterviewIQ is an AI-powered mock interview platform that simulates realistic live interviews using conversational voice AI and AI-generated interviewers.

Users can:

Paste a job description or interviewer LinkedIn profile
Generate personalized interview questions tailored to the role
Join a live AI interview with a talking avatar interviewer
Answer questions using their microphone in real time
Experience natural conversational follow-ups and interruptions
Receive a detailed AI-generated interview performance report afterward

The report includes:

Overall interview score
Confidence analysis
Filler word detection
Strongest and weakest answers
Timestamped weak moments
Personalized improvement recommendations

At the end, an AI voice coach conversationally debriefs the user and explains their biggest improvement area.

How we built it

We built InterviewIQ using Lovable, Cursor, and the ElevenLabs API.

We focused heavily on making the interview feel realistic, conversational, and immersive rather than simply generating static questions.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was reducing latency between:

AI-generated responses
Voice synthesis
User speech processing

Maintaining a natural conversational flow while handling multiple real-time interactions simultaneously was difficult.

Another challenge was creating realistic follow-up questions that reacted intelligently to the candidate’s responses instead of feeling scripted.

We also had to carefully design prompts and interview logic to ensure the AI interviewer stayed professional, conversational, and role-specific throughout the session.

We are most proud of creating an interview experience that genuinely feels human and interactive.
