Inspiration
Interviews have become a pivotal part of the job process. Yet not all situations are made equal. Whether it be a ride to the job site, some professional clothing, or good interview prep, there are many outside factors to hold people back. We seek to change that.
Who our website is meant for
This tool is meant for those who lack the resources they need to adequately conduct an interview at their best ability. The main audience of this website would most likely be people of lower income backgrounds and those inexperienced with the interview process, yet it is open to all people looking for a good tool to get better at interviews. Ultimately, our mission is to level the playing field for all career applicants.
What it does
At Interview Ace, we give the tools to come prepared and professional to every interview. This includes a Clothing page to find what to wear, a Transportation page to figure out how to get there, an Interview Question page to practice for an interview, and a Libraries page to get access to a computer if you don't have one.
How we built it
We used a combination of Javascript, HTML, and CSS to code. We used Node.js to run the code locally, and render.com to deploy the code (the website is now accessible via link https://team-12.onrender.com/home ). Additionally, we used google maps API to create maps to help the users navigate locations that help prepare for the interview.
Challenges we ran into
It was difficult to figure out how Google APIs work. Styling also became difficult at times as elements would overlap one another.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It was the first time we encountered the google maps API. It was a huge learning curve and we are proud that we were able to create a working google map incorporated into our website in one day. Overall, we are proud that we successfully built a working website that has a friendly and beautiful user interface.
What we learned
With this project, we learned numerous practical skills, including Google API, Github, and building a working project in a constrained time period. Additionally, We learned that communication is very important. Coordination and sharing ideas with one another is the key to a successful project.
What's next for Interview Ace
If Interview Ace were to grow, there are a few ways we can improve it.
We plan on making a comments section for the interview questions. We also plan on having the users log in and sign up. This way, we create a community platform, where each user can post their answers to each interview question, and have other users comment on their answers so that they can learn together.
Additionally, we plan on expanding the transportation, clothing, and libraries to cover multiple metropolitan areas Since this is a prototype, our project focused on just New York City, but a bigger project should include a search bar that allows the user to input a city, and get corresponding results. For the transportation page, we also plan on implementing an algorithm to calculate the cheapest route for the traveler for people on a tight budget.
