Inspiration

Choosing a university for prospective undergrad is a hard thing. I remember the time when I had to do this for my future and the stress it gave. It becomes even harder during Covid-19 since we do not have access to tours or Open Houses to help us decide the path of our future. We don't have the abilities during the times of the pandemic to make the most informed choice. That's where InterU comes in.

What it does

InterU lets you input a Canadian University name and an optional detail you want to know about. It will look through a text file and return to the user via a GUI the detail they want to know. You can try it yourself at InterU.

How we built it

InterU's backbone is Python. Using a class to store the information, InterU inputs and outputs the data with a Tkinter GUI.

Challenges we ran into

This is our first project, as well as the first time coding together. We did not know how to use Tkinter and had little knowledge about Python. However, learning from scratch was a fun experience in itself.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the product that we can create with the limited knowledge we had. We did not expect the app to work at all. Watching it compile and run, doing the exact thing we want it to do is very exciting in itself.

What we learned

We learned about the functionalities of Tkinter. InterU also taught us how to work in the software development cycle and how to resolve problems with teamwork.

What's next for InterU

The ultimate goal for InterU is to become an online open-source database, so people can edit the documentation on all the universities. We don't want InterU to limit itself to Canadian University. InterU is going to extend to worldwide Universities and cities. We hope to include many more features, such as cultural and technical club information, professor and course ratings, University research progress, offered facilities, info about the cities, etc. To connect students and people around the world, that's the point of the name and our logo.
