Inspiration

As someone who was fascinated with space from a young age and noticed the lack of space teachings in school, I decided to create Interstarller. It is important for the youth of the world to be introduced to space properly, as there are various skills they can learn along the way and apply them to any desired field. In order to help people, especially children learn more, I have created an easy web application for anyone to explore.

What it does

Interstarller provides you with information on countless things. There are cards for each planet in our solar system including the Sun. Along with that, there is a news section. This will provides users with an opportunity to read articles about what is going on in terms of space related news. There are cards will get updated every two weeks to help ensure that all news is current. Lastly, I wanted to included Twilio. I did so by creating a chatbox where users can ask space experts their questions.

How we built it

I built this website using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. It was my first time working with JavaScript alone and with the help of online resources, I was able to figure it out.

Challenges we ran into

Many of the challenges I ran into were design related as I wanted to make the website aesthetically pleasing. This meant finding the right images, positions the cards in a neat way and making use all elements were spaced out properly. It was a long trial and error process.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of the cards I created for each section and making them functionally. I always struggled with including images in my cards but through trial and error I was able to figure it out. I am also proud with completing this project on my own.

What we learned

I learned about the wonders JavaScript can do and look forward to working more with it for future projects. I also learned the importance of learning about Space and how it actually effects everyone in some way shape or form. Drawing out designs was also helpful so I can have a hardcopy of what I would like to create on the screen.

What's next for Interstarller

I would like to create quizzes and games which I can add to the website. This way, people can test their knowledge and I can see if users are interested in reading the content on not.
