Inspiration

I have always been fascinated by space and space missions in particular. Often times I find myself looking for a brief overview of certain topics, but usually find myself in very detailed webpages with a lot of information to filter through.

What it does

This website gives a brief overview of the ISS and provides a fun ISS tracker where users can refresh the website to look at the current actual coordinates of the ISS.

How we built it

The website was built in React and used bootstrap for styling purposes complemented by CSS. I used an ISS tracker API to track the coordinates of the ISS.

Challenges we ran into

This was the first hackathon and the first time I was using react-bootstrap and I struggled with getting the carousel to display correctly, but eventually managed to solve the problem by looking over the documentation and working incrementally.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of trying new things in the project. Getting the carousel to work properly was very exciting. The use of a new api was also fun.

What we learned

I learnt the importance of working incrementally and testing every step. Trying new things is another thing that can seem daunting but the end product is something I am proud of and glad that I learnt new things.

What's next for International Space Station

I tried to get a google maps api to work with the tracker api, but it wasn't compatible with newer versions of react, so i'd like to explore other possibilities of getting that functionality to work.
