Inspiration

For inspiration, we imagined a more seasonal project that tied into not only the spirit of Halloween (as it is October), but also the theme of exploration.

What it does

This is a game you can play to travel to other planets in an infinite universe, going trick-or-treating for candy.

How we built it

We built this game off of Pygame and used REPL.IT to collaboratively work on it. The code that we built it with is not the finest, and has many buggy features about it.

Challenges we ran into

We did not have enough time to put all the features we initially planned for. Also, the code quality rapidly degraded over time, causing difficulties adding further features.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we managed to make a game that has dynamic star and planet generation and a fuel system.

What we learned

We learned that we cannot make a project as fast as we thought we could, and that scaling the project down would've been a useful investment. We learned that bad code is easy and fast to write, but hard to work with and debug. We learned how to make a scrolling background and used things we learned from the Game Design workshop to make the game.

What's next for Intergalactic Trick-or-Treat

If we were to continue this project, we would balance the game so it's harder (maybe with a difficulty slider) and add more features related to trick-or-treating, i.e. landing on a planet and having a small conversation.
