Inspiration
Intergalactic Checkout was inspired by the idea of turning an everyday experience into something playful and unexpected. I wanted to take the familiar pressure of working a checkout lane and reimagine it as a colorful alien job where every customer and product can surprise you.
What it does
Intergalactic Checkout is a fast-paced Simulation & Management game where players run an alien checkout station. You scan products, weigh goods, look up missing codes, check restricted items, handle strange anomalies, manage customer patience, earn upgrades, and work through increasingly challenging rounds.
How I built it
I built the prototype as a self-contained HTML, CSS, and JavaScript game designed specifically for fixed-portrait play. AI-assisted development helped me rapidly prototype, test, debug, and refine the game while I created the gameplay systems, characters, products, environments, interface, audio, and progression.
Challenges I ran into
One of my biggest challenges was fitting a complete management game into a small portrait play space while keeping every interaction readable and easy to use. I also worked through issues involving customer flow, round progression, touch interactions, difficulty balance, offline packaging, and making the final build reliable across different screen sizes in portrait mode.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am proud that the final prototype became a complete playable experience with a tutorial, two Levels, eight Rounds, multiple merchandise mechanics, customer management, upgrades, Game Over recovery, Final Galactic Rush, and a full ending and replay flow.
What I learned
I learned how important repeated playtesting is, especially for a game built around many interacting systems. Small changes to pacing, feedback, layout, or customer behavior could dramatically affect the experience, so testing and iteration became just as important as building the features themselves.
What's next for Intergalactic Checkout
I would love to expand Intergalactic Checkout with more customers, products, anomalies, environments, upgrades, and management decisions while keeping the approachable touch-first gameplay that defines the prototype.
