About the Project: Dark Sanctum Inspiration Dark Sanctum was inspired by classic horror stories and interactive games that allow players to make choices that affect the narrative. The desire to create an immersive experience where players confront their fears and explore a haunted asylum drove the project. I aimed to blend storytelling with interactivity, making each decision impactful and engaging.

What it does Dark Sanctum is an interactive horror adventure game where players navigate through the eerie Ravenswood Asylum. Players make choices that influence the storyline, encounter chilling scenarios, and manage their sanity. The game features multiple endings based on the decisions made, providing a unique experience with each playthrough.

How we built it The project was built using HTML for structure, CSS for styling, and JavaScript for interactivity. I created a series of scenes, each containing text, images, and choices. The game logic tracks the player's sanity and navigates through different paths based on their decisions. Event listeners were implemented to handle user inputs effectively, ensuring a smooth gameplay experience.

Challenges we ran into One of the main challenges was managing the branching narrative and ensuring that all choices led to appropriate outcomes without breaking the flow of the story. Debugging the JavaScript code to ensure that choices were correctly linked to their respective scenes was also a significant hurdle. Additionally, creating a visually appealing design that matched the horror theme while remaining user-friendly required multiple iterations and refinements.

Accomplishments that we're proud of I am proud of successfully creating a cohesive and engaging narrative with over 20 decision points and multiple endings. The integration of dynamic content and user interactions enhanced the overall experience. Additionally, the project showcases my ability to blend storytelling with technical skills, resulting in a polished interactive game.

What we learned Throughout the development of Dark Sanctum, I learned valuable skills in JavaScript, particularly in handling dynamic content and user interactions. I also gained experience in structuring narratives in a branching format, which required careful planning to ensure coherence. Furthermore, I improved my HTML and CSS skills to create an appealing user interface that enhances the horror atmosphere.

What's next for Interactive Storytelling Moving forward, I plan to expand Dark Sanctum by adding more scenes, choices, and potential outcomes to increase replayability. I also aim to incorporate audio elements and animations to enhance the immersive experience. Additionally, I would like to explore the possibility of creating a mobile version of the game to reach a wider audience and make the interactive storytelling experience more accessible.
