Inspiration
In this hack, I will be presenting my ideas on improving the portfolio section, so that it will help increase user engagement and decrease the turnaround time of sharing the projects on Devpost to other platforms and portfolio/ CV.
What it does
In the long run, it will help the recruiters to start organizing the hiring events and challenges on Devpost. It will not let the platform constrain itself to only hackathons; Quizzes, assessments, coding challenges, and other gamified hiring challenges will add up with the hackathon. The next idea to implement is the in-app messaging services. It will help the participants interact with team other easily and form teams. In the long run, it will help the participants to form communities on the Devpost.
Challenges we ran into
User persona: Devika is a UX designer, who has worked on 3 projects/ hackathons on the Devpost. Hackathons were been attended by the team, and on the projects, the role and contribution were mentioned as a team member. But to showcase the projects to the recruiters, she use to move the same projects to Dribble, Behance, and LinkedIn. The same content can’t be moved in the same type, so it took more time to make the changes and upload the project details and links required.
User Persona: Ranadheer is a beginner at hackathons, he doesn’t have a team with him. He enrolled in an AR-related hackathon on Devpost. He wants to team up with people who have experience in AR/ VR projects. Based on the skills and interest filter he finds some people who have previously worked on AR/ VR projects. To connect with them he tried getting the contact details, but he found the Twitter handle of the user. When Ranadheer tried reaching them on Twitter he did not get a response from the user as he was not much active on Twitter. Likewise, it happened with other users of the Devpost while reaching out to the user on Twitter, LinkedIn, and other platforms where they might be active or passive, which leads to ignoring the DMs on the social apps. It will curb the opportunity for beginners to team up with experienced hackers to learn and build great products
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It will solve the problem of maintaining a different portfolio to present the projects to the recruiters. Devpost will be used as the default portfolio of participants just like Dribble, Adobe Behance, etc. Attaching the downloadable files will bring the recruiters to the platform, then will help bring the hiring challenges and competition to the platform. It will increase the opportunities for the participants in getting jobs. Hackathon teams and communities can start using the Devpost as their community platform and connect with fellow hackers. (Devpost has its Discord community) The downloadable portfolio will help in building the CV and sharing it as a .pdf file. This feature should work as same as Linkedin’s “Build a Resume”. Instead of another app, participants will rely on Devpost. It will increase the user spending time on Devpost.
