Inspiration
As computer science students in pursuit of employment, we are well acquainted with the interview process. We want to make interview coaching services more accessible to students and those across various fields and experience levels. Additionally, we hoped to harness the power of AI to provide a deeper level of insight and capability rather than harding coding interview tips. The interview process can be intimidating, and we want a way to improve applicants’ confidence.
What it does
More than just a model wrapper, InterReview is an AI interview practice tool that gives users detailed and personalized feedback on their interview performance. Users enter interview questions of their choice and submit corresponding recordings of verbal responses. Via carefully curated system prompts, Google Gemini is fed the aforementioned data and returns evaluations at both a high level and targeted specific areas of improvement of the user’s response in regards to relevance to the question, use of filler words, tone, talking speed, and more. Users can additionally view their past responses to track improvement.
How we built it
We developed a React front end and connected it to a Flask back end which communicates with a PostgreSQL database hosted on AWS. We handled user authentication with Supabase and integrated Google Gemini API for audio transcription and feedback generation.
Challenges we ran into
As first-time hackathon participants, we initially struggled with team coordination. However, through effective communication and task delegation, we were able to overcome this challenge and not only meet our goals, but exceed them.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Having remained persistent in the development of our numerous ideated features without compromising functionality
- Having efficiently utilized technologies new to our team
- Having established a clear architecture for our cloud and database technologies which was followed and unmodified during the software development process
What we learned
The most valuable lesson learned was not about improving technical skill, but staying true to our vision and welcoming adversity to maintain high standards and quality.
What's next for InterReview
We truly believe in our mission for InterReview to benefit students or anyone seeking interview preparation. Our foremost priority is to scale and deploy our application for use to a larger user base.
