Inspiration

The Global Low Carb Network, Professor Tim Noakes, Gary Taubes, Nina Teicholz, Robert Lustig MD, Andreas Eenfeldt MD

What it does

“Coronavirus: Nine in 10 dying have existing illness” BBC News in the UK

“COVID-19 is hitting some patients with obesity particularly hard” Science News

Professor Tim Noakes “The Covid 19 virus appears to have evolved precisely to move through the metabolically challenged”

Develop protocols and services around healthy food for key workers to protect and strengthen immunity

How I built it

We are going to build a business around a protocol aimed initially at health care workers and groups vulnerable to Covid 19 such as the elderly.

Challenges I ran into

We are at the start of the journey…there will be opposition from the standard dietary model which is based on the recommendation of a high carbohydrate diet

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Self-employed entrepreneur for 20 years

What I learned

Think deeply and hard

What's next for Intensify Immunity

Food is Medicine Mission Statement Hippocrates “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”

What We Believe (1)

Bad food is killing people "poor diet kills about 530,000 Americans annually -- or nearly 1,500 deaths a day" From JAMA Food is Medicine

What We Observe (1) The intersection of the bad diet pandemic with Covid 19 pandemic Most common comorbidities were: hypertension 57% obesity 42% diabetes 34% Food is Medicine

What We Observe (2)

Obesity is the main driver of reduced immunity

Definition

The definition of Metabolic Disease and the link to immunity Food is Medicine The Challenge

Professor Tim Noakes “we are seeing a virus mutated to enable it to make its way through populations weakened by Metabolic syndrome and disease” • Two pandemics are intersecting in an horrific and alarming way. • BBC Reports that 90% of UK adults infected with Covid have at least one underlying condition • Governor Cuomo says 97.5% of Covid 19 infectees in New York have at least one underlying condition • The Health Survey for England 2017 estimates that 28.7% of adults in England are obese and a further 35.6% are overweight but not obese. . • Over 70 million adults in U.S. are obese (35 million men and 35 million women). 99 million are overweight (45 million women and 54 million men)

The Assumption

Professor Johan Giesecke from Unherd “Covid 19 is unstoppable” “Disease will roll all over Europe” “50% will be infected in UK and Sweden in one ye arstime" From the US Centre for Disease Control (CDC) from CNN “CDC Chief says US faces a second more devastating wave of Covid next year” Singapore from Guardian “Covid 19 surges back” Covid 19 will be here for several years before a vaccine

What We Believe (2)

Good food is simple

  1. Radically devoid of sugars, grains and starches (these foods spike your blood sugar levels)
  2. Provides all key nutrients
  3. Has a probiotic effect
  4. Is not an unnatural factory made food e.g. vegetable oils
  5. Can include meat, fish and seafood or can be largely vegetarian

The Opportunity

“A paradigm shift is underway, the global diet faces a moment of complete disruption” Use health food to intensify an secure Immunity from infection were it matters most urgently Do so in series of smart, sharp, targeted and focused protocols See martin@liathach.net For more details
