About the Project

The Integrated Smart Waste Management System (ISWMS) was inspired by the growing problem of improper waste segregation and inefficient waste collection in urban areas. I wanted to develop a system that could make waste management more automated, intelligent, and sustainable.

The project uses AI/ML and computer vision to identify different types of waste. Once identified, servo-controlled mechanisms automatically direct the waste through separate pipelines into dedicated underground storage chambers. Arduino and IoT technologies are used to control and monitor the system.

While building the prototype, I learned how to combine AI, IoT, embedded systems, automation, and mechanical control into a single solution. One of the biggest challenges was designing a reliable segregation mechanism that could correctly route different waste categories without mixing them.

Through this project, I learned that solving a real-world problem requires not only technology, but also careful system design, testing, and continuous improvement. ISWMS is my attempt to create a cleaner, safer, and more efficient approach to urban waste management.
