Inspiration
With Alex and Shaheen both having extensive experience of dealing with diabetes, (and the ubiquitous presence of sugar everywhere) we saw the difficulties of finding good information about insulin providers and prices.
What it does
Insulin Cloud, or IC for short, provides a live updating summary of insulin products, prices, and many other important pieces of information such as the type and the amount. The intuitive website displays the information in order of price, and users have the ability to filter based on the type of insulin.
How we built it
Our site was built with HTML, CSS, and Javascript. In the future, we want to expand our program's abilities even further using other languages for effective database management, data scraping, and more!
Challenges we ran into
Thankfully we didn't run into very many major problems... besides brainstorming, designing, drawing, coding, and configuring Insulin Cloud :D. Brendan learned JavaScript on the fly as he was coding, and the other members little to no experience with anything other than a bit of Java. It was a challenge figuring out how to make different elements look a certain way, get the functionality, and most of all gather the data!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We learned a great deal during this process, and we absolutely love the UI on our website. We hope that this project might not only help people with diabetes, but also inspire other people to create projects beneficial to the society using CS :)
What we learned
Brendan learned JavaScript, and a great deal of HTML and CSS! Matthew learned Java for the first time, and all four of us learned a metric ton about graphic design, presentation, and the absolute powerhouse that Google slides is??
