Inspiration

Every day millions of people wake up, thinking strenuously about what to wear for the day. We wanted to offer a simple solution to this common situation that people encounter daily.

What it does

It utilizes AI technology to determine which pairs of clothing work well from an individual's wardrobe with an in-built rating system that is voted on by the community.

How we built it

There were several pieces that came together for this project to be built. From designing the UI to developing and training the model and hosting the site, this project had many moving parts that were addressed most efficiently by splitting up the tasks and working together simultaneously.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge we ran into was working under time pressure. Balancing time without getting overwhelmed or exhausted was critical to accomplishing our build over the two days.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

An accomplishment we were proud of was creating an AI model using Tensorflow and Keras in Python, especially since it was our first time using these technologies. Getting the model to recognize color was a huge milestone in our project.

What we learned

We learned through taking a hands-on approach to our project countless new technologies that are at the forefront of the digital computing world. Additionally, this hackathon has reinforced many core skills such as communication and the importance of collaborative thinking as it contributes to addressing challenges on the spot.

What's next for Instyle

Honestly, we designed the web application intending for it to be a fun experience for users to share a daily part of themselves and engage with their community. We would love for the product to be developed into a full-fledged application, released on both iOS and Android.
