Inspiration
Music touches us emotionally, and playing music has proven benefits for the mind, body and soul. Few get to experience playing on stage with a band at a big gig. We want to use our knowledge of the music industry, to give users the ultimate musician experience. We want to build the best XR music/education/lifestyle experience, and make it comprehensive, rewarding and engaging. We want to see more people own and use musical instruments, so we are using ISXR to create a new generation of virtual musicians, who can afford to play and record music in exciting new ways.
What it does
The most advanced XR music app ever built, a complete Mobile XR Recording Studio. Play in time in VR, MR or VR Video Modes, with the fastest, lowest latency Instruments. Dynamic multi-sample Sounds, Haptics and 3D Audio Visuals. Drums, Percussion, Bodhran, Acoustic, Electric and Bass Guitars, Grand Piano, 2 Sampler Keyboards, Click Track, 8-Track Sequencer, Synth with Oscillators, Waves, ADSR, Effects and LFOs. Mix with XR DAW, use XR Sequencer, XR MIDI system, VR Video Player and much more.
How we built it
ISXR Development Phases
Phase1 Alpha Complete - Port instruments from ISVR Rift to ISXR Quest, Rebuild, Improve, and Optimize.
Phase2 Alpha Complete - Add MR mode, VR Video mode, XRDAW, XRMIDI systems.
Phase3 Beta Current - Launch Early Access Dec2025, Feedback, Improve, Add Multiplayer, Add Spatial SDKs.
Challenges we ran into
Covid started when we released Instrument Studio VR for Rift, couldn't travel to promote.
Meta stopped PCVR at the same time, Quest1 port wouldn't work due to latency.
Q2 would work, so I have been working on it full time for 5 years, trying to solve the big problems to create, play, record music in VR, and keep performance solid on mobile hardware.
My team members lost both parents in this time and also managed Sinead O'Connor (who passed).
My Dad had cancer and a stroke, and my dog died.
I have got no support from local government, trying to make me do other jobs,
saying "you have to know when to give up", well I didn't give up, and app releases in 9 days :)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I was ten years sober in 2017, so treated myself to a DK2, I am still sober, and developing XR apps and immersive video.
Instrument Studio VR for Rift was worlds first complete VR recording studio, Instrument Studio XR for Quest is first complete mobile studio,
and it performs much better than any PC or mobile app.
Have had VR videos exhibited in National Museum.
Currently pioneering workshops, teach adults and youth groups with intellectual disabilities to create 2D, VR and MR apps using AI assistance.
What we learned
You have to keep trying, I don't give up when I have a coding problem, there's always a solution to any problem.
What's next for Instrument Studio XR
After Launch Dec 2025 Phase 3 - Get User Feedback, Improve, Add Multiplayer, Add Spatial SDKs, Add streaming VR Video Performance Mode, Add Instruments to Hyperscapes or Photogrammetry Environment.
