Inspiration
When we came back home from college, we realized that our parents were really struggling to find certain groceries at stores and after watching the news, we realized that this was much more widespread of an issue. In an effort to promote social distancing and help people get what they need instead of going around to 6 or 7 stores to find a single product, we built InStok.
What it does
InStok lets users search for products and find out where they can buy the product in stores near them or online at the cheapest pricepoint possible.
How I built it
We built the website with react and javascript for the frontend and node.js for the backend and the mobile app using swift.
Challenges I ran into
We had to struggle to understand how products are laid out on the website to understand the scheme of how to best scrape them.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We are proud that we have had an impact on the 700,000 people that have used the app in the last three weeks.
What I learned
We learned a lot about scraping and best practices as well as building out experiences through research and user testing.
What's next for InStok
We hope to build instok into a shopping and price comparison startup.
