Inspiration
In the vibrant tapestry of college fests and meets, navigating through numerous events often feels like exploring a maze without a map. I encountered that I myself ,in my college's Tech Fest wasn't able to attend few events which I would love to , because I was unaware of those , as plenty of events were happening at the same time. To tackle this challenge and infuse excitement into the process, we birthed InstiSocial.
What it does
InstiSocial is the compass guiding you through this labyrinth of events, infusing each location with a burst of anticipation. It transforms event navigation into an exhilarating journey, ensuring you never miss a beat. With its immersive interface, it not only helps you locate events but plunges you into a world where each event's essence is brought to life. Our app guides you to nearby events and adds an interactive AR tag, turning event locations into thrilling experiences.
How we built it
Our journey began by harnessing the power of Google's geospatial API , paired seamlessly with the AR Foundation within Unity. This combination formed the backbone of InstiSocial, allowing us to create an immersive experience that melds the real world with event information.
Additionally, we crafted a web app using Flask , becoming our hub for adding and modifying event data. This data seamlessly syncs with the AR app, enriching the immersive world by dynamically showcasing event details. This fusion of web technology and augmented reality laid the groundwork for InstiSocial's dynamic and user-friendly interface.
Challenges we ran into
Operating in a region where 3D mapping data was unavailable posed a significant obstacle. This limitation directly affected the performance of our Visual Positioning System (VPS), rendering it ineffective in providing the necessary accuracy. As a result, relying solely on GPS for location accuracy fell short of our expectations, hampering our goal of achieving precise event localization within India.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A major triumph in our journey was mastering the geospatial API and tailoring it to fit our project's unique demands. Our adeptness in implementing and customizing this technology proved pivotal in overcoming geographical limitations. This accomplishment empowered us to fine-tune the location-based functionalities of InstiSocial, even in regions with scarce 3D mapping data. The ability to adapt and optimize the geospatial API according to our needs stands as a testament to our proficiency and innovation.
What we learned
Our experience revealed the immense utility of location-based AR, especially in the context of large-scale events. Additionally, we honed our problem-solving skills by delving into source codes and documentation, discovering effective solutions and enhancing our development process.
What's next for InstiSocial
The journey ahead for InstiSocial involves integrating navigation systems to further streamline event exploration. Additionally, we aim to introduce dynamic posters and banners, elevating the immersive advertising experience within the app. These upcoming features will enrich user interaction and redefine how events are navigated and advertised.
