Inspiration

We are facing many pressing issues in the world today from climate change to the development of countries to world hunger. But, the youth today is not politically active enough to be making a difference. We are trying to change that.

What it does

With InstaVote, we are creating a platform that allows users to see the most pressing topics in their area in a quick video format, similar to TikTok or Instagram Reels. And, if they are interested in the topic, they can easily scroll to the right the view the thoughts of political candidates in their area on that topic and a map of polling locations. This will allow them to become more informed on the issues in the world today and figure out who they should be voting for to make the change they want to see.

How we built it

We built this app using Javascript, HTML, and CSS, splitting up the frontend and backend development amongst the various team members.

Challenges we ran into

While building the app, we ran into the challenge of finding databases of polling locations around the country as well as finding a database of political candidates.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of being able to integrate location information to use the app and in rendering a functional prototype.

If we had more time, we would have integrated the politician's views and stances (this is what should fill in the pink pages when we scroll to the right) on each topic. And given more time, we would have built out the system to be able to send push notifications to users about their registration status and reminding them to vote.
