Inspiration
We were inspired by a recent visit to the ER where one of our friends was in immense pain, but the staff made them fill out all the insurance details first before tending to them.
What it does
It digitizes the health insurance information of any person into a QR code, that can then be scanned by the health service provider. This ensures a faster check-in process as the health insurance and other patient related details get automatically uploaded to the health service provider's system.
How we built it
We used django to build the patient side of the app that generates the QR code, and flask + OpenCV to build the health service provider part of the app that scans the QR code and retrieves the data.
Challenges we ran into
Some of the challenges we ran into were technical, relating to getting the QR code scanner to work.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of creating a proof of concept that works and coming up with an idea that has the potential to affect millions of lives.
What we learned
We also learned Flask and OpenCV for the project. We learned how QR codes work.
What's next for Insta insure
The next step is to convert the patient part of the web app into a mobile app, and to use a dedicated QR code scanner to scan the QR code that will be connected to the healthcare provider's computer.
