Inspiration

Of the Day is inspired from my current situation in the job search where I'd love to practice one interview question a day, but have always found that the friction is too big to get a new interview question, select the good ones, and practice. There were always breaks too short to do anything productive, but kinda too long to just wait around, and I ended up going off to social media. Time to reduce the friction and change it.

What it does

"Of the day” delivers small AI-powered snippets of questions and fun facts for you to ponder on, fill your day with inspirations, reduce time waste on social media, and progressing towards your goal It also has a Marketplace system to utilize the collective power of prompt engineering to make your day.

How we built it

I am exited to have used Next.js 13 for this project; the current advancements in new rendering method and the app router and Server Components and Server Actions were definitely really worth checking out. Then I used the Vercel AI SDK to seamlessly integrate with OpenAI GPT-3.5 model on the backend, and the application is deployed on Render

Challenges we ran into

1. Wrong choice of technology

At first, I chose the wrong technology in initially choosing Streamlit because I thought the frontend building would be easier and I have time to focus on the AI and backend, but it turns out Streamlit have limited design options in the card designs I am looking for, and integration between Python and JavaScript would be very difficult, so I pivoted to Nextjs

1. Auth0 exploration

It was my first time using Auth0 so there were a lot of edge cases I did not know about. Initally, I intended to store user information in Auth0's provided user_metadata object, and learning about Auth0 Action was very useful, but the Auth0 metadata was not reactive enough for my application, so I changed to use a Postgresql Database instead

What's next for Inspirations Of the Day

• Add a chat room function to chat with an AI about a snippet of the day
• Have a cron job that generates new idea every 24 hours
