InsightWing | AI Content Summarizer | Chrome Extension

Inspiration

In the digital era, sifting through vast amounts of information to find the essence is a challenge many face daily. Recognizing this, we were inspired to create a tool that could swiftly summarize extensive content, making web browsing efficient and enlightening. This led to the birth of InsightWing.

What it does

InsightWing, a Chrome extension, is your content compass. With a click, it transforms sprawling web pages into concise 60-word summaries. But it doesn’t stop there. Its unique chat feature allows users to engage and extract deeper insights from the content, turning passive reading into an interactive experience.

How we built it

Our user-friendly Chrome extension interface was designed with HTML/CSS and brought to life using JavaScript. On the backend, Node.js and Express serve as the communication hub between the frontend and our LLM Server. We used Flask to host the LLM. In particular, FalconLLM model provides the perfect balance between power and inference quality, so this powers our Summarizer. LangChain and custom prompts enable incredible chat experiences.

Challenges we ran into

Ensuring that our extension remains universally compatible across a multitude of websites was a complex task, and still needs more work.
Achieving the right balance between brevity and content integrity in the summaries was a hurdle. It needed precise Prompt Engineering that took hours to optimize.
For the LLM model, we wanted to embrace open-source models. So, we played around with a number of available local LLM models before finalizing on FalconLLM.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully creating a tool that encapsulates the essence of web content in meaningful summaries is an achievement we cherish. Given the short duration, we got to work on unforgiving deadlines and we are super proud of the end result. The architecture, that surprisingly is easily extendible for further use, is another thing that stands out.

What we learned

Beyond honing our technical expertise, the journey taught us the nuances of human language and the significance of preserving context. This opened us to the world of Local LLM that prove that LLMs are not only for the Big MNCs but for everyone.

What's next for InsightWing | AI Page Summarizer | Chrome Extension

Looking ahead, we plan to enhance InsightWing by adding multilingual support, bringing its benefits to a global audience. Voice command integration is another feature that enables users to interact with content audibly. Given that FalconLLM is open source, we're excited about collaborating with the community, continually refining and expanding InsightWing's capabilities.
