Inspiration
The inspiration came from how restrictive I am to what I post or others post about me on social media. I realized that I had the fear of leaking personal information onto the internet, which would not be good. I wanted assurance that I am not leaking personal information. I looked up tools and found none as such. Hence, I designed InSight Shield.
What it does
InSight Shield is a pre-post privacy scanner that helps you break down the chaos of social media and truly understand what you are posting. Users can create a post on the app for their desired platform, and then analyze for any potential leak of information. Google Gemini will scan and flag such risks. These risks will then be reviewed by the user and upon approval, Google Gemini will work on the content to remove all the risks. Thus the user can safely post.
How we built it
First, I talked with Google Gemini to solidify my idea. Then I asked for a text version of the entire workflow of the app. I then use Notability to draw all the screens by hand. Then I wireframed the designs in Figma, and then converted them to High-fidelity screens.
Challenges we ran into
Before this design-a-thon, I had always avoided using Figma components and gave the responsibility to someone else. Being a solo designer this time, I forced myself to learn components to create small animations. I watched a lot of YouTube videos on components to understand them. Creating the loading icon on the scanning page was difficult. Also blurring specific parts of the video (part of the content) was very complex but I figured it out eventually.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am truly proud of how I used components to build animations. I experimented quite a lot and designed animations like the nav bar on my own. I learnt a lot about Smart Animate on Figma and now understand that there are ways to customize the smartness.
What we learned
Components would be my biggest takeaway. I also learnt that simple is key. I tried adding a details page, but then realized that in real world scenario, it would not be nice for the app to store the user's contents to display data analytics. I thought hard about this and came to the conclusion of not including it, which I think was a good choice.
What's next for InSight Shield
I will try to see if there are any places I can improve on. I would love to convert this idea into a working app by coding it and use it personally. Would help me (and others I know) a lot to be more active on social media and create good connections!
