Inspiration
We wanted to mix the satisfying progression of classic idle RPGs with the chaotic charm of cat gods and ancient temples. The idea of defeating giant feline bosses and then having them join your party felt both funny and epic, and it fit perfectly with the vibe of an endless crypt dedicated to an ancient Cat Deity.
What it does
Insane Adventure into the Legendary Crypt of the Ancient Cat is a mobile-first idle RPG. Players enter solo runs where each in-game day brings a random buff, debuff, or battle. You fight enemies, face powerful cat bosses, and when you defeat them, they join your party for that run. Between runs, you return to a shared lobby, spend gold on permanent stat upgrades, pick up quests, customize skins, and compare progress on leaderboards.
How we built it
The world runs inside a single Horizon world. We use advanced scripting in TypeScript to power a modular combat state machine, procedural crypt generation, and the run logic. Noesis UI is used to deliver clean, readable interfaces for mobile players. Multiplayer features allow multiple users to stay in the lobby, spectate each other’s runs, and sync leaderboard data.
Challenges we ran into
Balancing the simplicity of an idle game with meaningful choices each day of the run was a challenge. We also had to carefully design UI and feedback for small mobile screens, while keeping combat, buffs, and debuffs understandable at a glance. Making spectating feel engaging without overcomplicating the core loop was another key design challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of creating a full run-based progression system with social spectating in a single Horizon world, plus a functional infinite crypt, persistent upgrades between runs, and a cast of memorable cat bosses that temporarily join your party. The lobby feels like a real hub where players can hang out, show off skins, and chase leaderboard spots.
What we learned
We learned how powerful Horizon’s scripting and UI tools can be for building mobile-friendly, system-heavy games. We also saw how important clear UX is for idle experiences, especially when players are learning buffs, debuffs, and revive mechanics quickly during short sessions.
What's next for Insane Adventure into the Legendary Crypt of the Ancient Cat
Next, we want to expand offline progression so players receive rewards when they come back, add more unique cat bosses that dramatically change party compositions, deepen the quest system, and introduce new social features in the lobby to make it an even cozier home for idle-game fans on Horizon mobile.
