Inspiration

Elevator-failure is a common problem that costs many lives and dollars. By including a mechanical locking mechanism, and several other strength design factors, we provide a multi-purpose winch that can be used in a variety of applications such as automobile, factory, etc.

What it does

This winch is a high-torque, mechanically locking one - meaning that it is impossible to backdrive.

How I built it

Using solidworks, I spent the entire two days perfecting and modeling such a design.

Challenges I ran into

There were several screw intersections, thus I had to move the standoff palcements which would then in turn regenerate the pocketing (which was very laggy)!

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I was incredibly proud of how awesome it looked (and seeing it in many different settings). Compared to the existing industrial applications, it seems like a much more cost-efficient and robust solution.
